Presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson to address luncheon, August 19
Gary Johnson, a 2012 Republican presidential candidate, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, August 19. Johnson, who served two terms as governor of New Mexico, says he has a record of staying out of the way to allow the private sector to create jobs. During his governorship, New Mexico experienced 11.6% job growth. Johnson also is known for his controversial support for legalizing marijuana. Club members mixed, mingled and swapped business cards at the second "Meet the Press Club" evening on Wednesday, July 13 in the McClendon Room. Softball team hits it out of the park in awesome season
The National Press Club softball team capped off its best season ever by competing in the MMSL post-season tournament. After beating a team from the National Journal in walk-off fashion, the third-seeded Press Club lost to Comcast Sports Net and USA Today, who were the top two seeds in the tournament. Each loss was by just three runs. During the tournament, Press Club member Ken Giglio was given the 2011 Dale Solly Award. MacNeil to toast, roast Lehrer at Fourth Estate dinner, Oct. 28
Longtime PBS NewsHour anchor Jim Lehrer will be “roasted” by Robert MacNeil, his former colleague and co-anchor, at the National Press Club Fourth Estate award dinner honoring Lehrer on Oct. 28. MacNeil sat behind the anchor’s desk with Lehrer at the original NewsHour program, named the “MacNeil/Lehrer Report,” starting in 1976. It became the NewsHour when it was expanded to an hour in 1983. Submit photos for Club exhibit by Aug. 19
Entries are due by Friday, Aug. 19, for the 12th Annual National Press Club Members' Photography Exhibition. Photos may be dropped off in the Club Membership Office beginning Monday, Aug. 8. Each member may submit up to four photos. The exhibit, sponsored by the Club's Photography Committee, is open to all Club members and is not juried.
