Terry Pratchett will discuss his latest book, “Snuff: A Novel of Discworld,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in the National Press Club ballroom. Fate of Oct. 2 picnic depends on finding volunteers
The Events Committee is seeking volunteers to help plan and coordinate the annual National Press Club picnic on Oct. 2 at Rock Creek Park. The venue has been booked, and the Club will provide food. Now we need Club members to help with logistics, such as picking up the food on the day of the picnic, grilling, serving and coordinating activities with the cooperation of Club committees. Labor Secretary Solis calls on Congress to create infrastructure bank
Congress needs to develop an infrastructure bank using both private and public funds to invest in roads, bridges and other projects, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis told a National Press Club audience on Aug. 30. A simple solution to two of America’s greatest challenges—global warming and a weak economy—could be achieved by taxing energy-producing companies $10 for each ton of carbon emissions released into the air and giving all the money to legal U.S. residents, climatologist James Hansen told a National Press Club Newsmaker audience on Aug. 29. American Legion issues permanent charter to Club, 1923
This Week In National Press Club History September 1,1923: The American Legion issues a permanent charter to the National Press Club, known as the American Legion Post 20, a veterans organization founded in 1919. One of the original members of the Post was Gen. John J . Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I and a member of the Club, which had been home to Post 20 since 1919. Members' photo exhibit opens with reception, 6 pm Sept. 1
A reception honoring National Press Club members whose photos are displayed in the 12th Annual NPC Members' Photo Exhibit will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Club's lobby and library classroom. All members and their guests are welcome. Reservations are not required. Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.
