A White House slice? Cain to address Oct. 31 luncheon
Herman Cain, former Godfather's Pizza chief executive and candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, will address a National Press Club luncheon on Monday, Oct. 31. Cain said in a recent Republican debate that he'd bring a sense of humor to the White House because "America is too uptight." Cain will discuss why he thinks his skills as a businessman make him the best choice for president. Assimilation, jobs pose challenges for immigrants to Austria
The director of the newly-established Austrian government office responsible for the integration of refugees and migrants in that country told a Sept. 16 Newsmaker audience that current immigrants are not like the earlier "guest workers" who came to the country temporarily. "We eventually came to realize that they intend to stay," Alexander Janda, director of the Austrian Integration Fund, said. Long-time member Jill Decker passes away at 78
Jill Thompson Decker, a member of the National Press Club since 1986, passed away on Sept. 3. Decker was a freelance writer and a former editor of the "Vienna Globe." She was a member of the Mystery Writers of America. Decker served on the board of directors of Historic Vienna Inc., volunteered at the Patrick Henry Library, was a member of the Vienna Centennial Committee and, at the time of her death, was a member of the Vienna Transportation and Safety Commission. She is survived by her brother, three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held in…

Library of American Broadcasting to honor Amanpour, Lamb, Nail
The Library of American Broadcasting has named three members of the National Press Club as 2011 Giants of Broadcasting. The library plans to honor NPC Fourth Estate winners Christiane Amanpour and Brian Lamb, and the late Dawson B “Tack” Nail, a NPC Golden Owl, who died in March, at a luncheon in October in New York. Amanpour anchors ABC’s Sunday morning political affairs program “This Week With Christiane Amanpour.” Prior to ABC, she was chief international correspondent at CNN.
