Former Book Committee chairman John Clark dies suddenly
John F. Clark, a former chairman and active member of the National Press Club’s Book and Author Committee, died suddenly Sept. 17. Clark was a lawyer specializing in environmental law and historic preservation and an important press contact. He was very good at simultaneously explaining and advocating his clients' positions. From the moment his membership application was accepted in 2003, he worked enthusiastically and tirelessly to bring top-notch authors to the Club. UN agency accused of 'exploiting' Palestinian refugees, 'enabling' Hamas
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in the Middle East is not doing the job for which it was created, according to two experts who spoke at a Sept. 19 Newsmaker. Singer Natalie Cole leads fight against Hepatitis C, Oct. 19 luncheon
Grammy-award winning entertainer Natalie Cole, daughter of singing legend Nat King Cole, will address a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Cole, diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis C in 2008, is lending her voice to Merck and the American Liver Foundation’s national public health initiative, Tune In to Hep C. Cole will visit Washington to meet with leading patient advocates and encourage others to take action against chronic Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a liver ailment often referred to as the “silent disease” because it can be in the body for decades without apparent symptoms.…

It’s that time of year again! Flu shots will be available at the National Press Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Bloomberg Room. They will be administered by INOVA HealthSource for $25 per person. This event is sponsored by the Club Fitness Center and is available only to Club members, their guests and staff. Club becomes Speakeasy on Oct. 3; "Prohibition" documentary screening at 7 p.m.
The Reliable Source will transform into a 1920s Speakeasy, replete with Prohibition-style cocktails and entertainment at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. Wednesday is the Night for Lobsters Night at the Fourth Estate
If it's the last Wednesday of the month, it's Lobster Night! The scrumptious crustaceans return to the Fourth Estate on Wednesday, Sept. 28. National Press Club members pay $25 -- and non-members $30 -- for a fresh 1 ¼ pound Maine lobster with coleslaw and a choice of french fries or oven-crisped potatoes. All Club members have access to the National Press Club Fitness Center, conveniently located on the 14th floor down the hall from the president’s office. The Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art facility that houses all the essential equipment needed to provide a total body workout.
