The best diplomatic-foeign policy stories from 2019 should be entered in the competition for the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence, one of a variety of categories in the contest. Ted Rowse as a young reporter and as National Press Club centenarian today. Arthur E. (Ted) Rowse, a native of Lexington, Mass., is the minuteman of press criticism at the National Press Club. In 1996, Rowse established an award in his name in the Club’s annual Journalism Contest to honor outstanding accountability journalism focused on the news media itself. He has self-funded the award for the past quarter century, and has arranged for it to be permanently endowed. Club reopens for dining, drinking as pandemic rules ease
National Press Club members are now permitted to eat and drink in the Club, as social distancing restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic continue to ease. On Tuesday, June 23, the Club reopened the Reliable Source under Phase 2 of pandemic rules issued by the District of Columbia government last week. Club members and guests may have breakfast, lunch and dinner and order drinks at tables in the Reliable Source. The number of tables has been reduced. The National Press Club wants to see your best work from 2019 about journalism and its challenges in the competition for the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism. Wallace, a 25-year member of the National Press Club and former director of Curator and Photographic Services at the Smithsonian Institution, died at his home in Melbourne, Fla., June 14.
