NPC's Morgan to exhibit sculpture, painting at Edison Gallery on Dec. 3
NPC Club member Carol Morgan invites you to an wine reception Saturday, Dec. 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Edison Gallery, 702 8th St. NW, between G and H Sts. Gallery Place Metro. Morgan is one of 33 artists showing work with the theme of "The Power of Artful Light II" sponsored by the Senior Artists' Alliance. Morgan will show her prize winning sculptured bust, "Wendy" and her watercolor, "Juan." Besides sculpture and painting, other work will include photographs and mixed media. Former Mexican Gov. Enrique Pena Nieto, a potential presidential contender, to address Nov. 15 Newsmaker
Enrique Pena Nieto, 45, who completed his term as Governor of the State of Mexico in September 2011 and will likely run for president of Mexico, will take questions from journalists at a Newsmaker press conference 12:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Zenger Room. Peno Nieto will address U.S.-Mexican relations on trade, security, immigration and the economy. Peno Nieto has expressed an interest in being a candidate for the 2012 Mexican presidential election, but has not officially announced his candidacy. This Week In National Press Club History November 11, 1919: American Legion Post 20 is founded at the Club, one year after the signing of the armistice which ended World War I. One of its best known projects was the sponsorship of the World War II canteen at the Club, where enlisted men from the Allied Forces were entertained at the Club on Saturday afternoons. Post members served them drinks and hot dogs. President Harry S. Silver Owls install Wiese at Saturday Holeman Hoot
Wise Owls filled the Holeman Lounge Saturday, Nov. 5 for the first-ever Silver Owls noon-time Hoot. The event celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Club-within-the-Club, honoring its founder Berrnie Goodrich and 1961 NPC President John Cosgrove, who have served as Head Hoots during the period. The gathering toasted them during a champagne lunch inaugurating Arthur Wiese, 1979 Club President, as the new Head Hoot. The United States Club of Rome will hold a luncheon Nov. 14 in honor of former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman. French candidate Le Pen: World economic system needs reform
Without major reforms, the world's economies will plunge into at least a decade of instability, French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen said Wednesday at a National Press Club Newsmaker. The world's largest economies, particular the Euro Zone, are “completely out of control,” Le Pen said.
