Members can vote from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the Zenger Room. The Washington Post headline read: "National Press Club Has a Real Contest For Presidency First Time in 33 Years", by Edward T. Rodrigo Valderrama: Candidate for communicator on Club board
Dear Club Communicator Member: I ask for your vote to continue my work on your behalf. Your “Communicator” Vote for Rodrigo A.-VALDERRAMA will support a continuing, active effort to extend a vote and greater participation to this club’s membership component. Communicator members should be able to vote for club officers, each membership voting for its Governors. During my 2-year tenure I’ve worked, spoken-out and done everything I could with a limited Communicator vote on the Board to achieve greater transparency, governance and keep it dynamic for members. I’ve staunchly supported…

Fellow Communicators, I ask for your vote on Dec. 9 because I want to be a strong voice for all of us in the non-journalist category. By using my three-year term to focus on increasing professional development, networking and social opportunities, I want to enhance the…

Emily Whitten: Candidate for communicator on Club board
I am running for the Communicator position on the Board of Governors because Communicators are a key asset of The National Press Club, and I want to ensure that we are well-represented as equal members of the Club, and to focus on how the Club can best benefit us and support our needs. I believe that I am the best candidate for the position, and ask that you vote for me in this election to represent Communicators on the Board. Communicators and their unique experiences and connections are invaluable when it comes to making The National Press Club a place where the news is made as well as…

Palestinians won't abandon drive for full UN membership, says chief U.S. representative
Palestinians will push for full membership as a state in the United Nations while continuing their non-violent protests of the wall Israel built, said Maen Rashid Areikat, chief representative of the Delegation of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in the United States, at a Dec. 6 Newsmaker. Areikat lamented what he called U.S. pressure on other countries to delay UN membership. Areikat acknowledged the continuing struggle between Hamas and Fatah in representing the Palestinians. But he said that is an "internal" affair unrelated to Israel. "We've got full membership in UNESCO,"…

He also analyzed regional politics, with an emphasis on Australia, China and other Asian countries. Moore provided an update about New Zealand's continuing recovery from the series of earthquakes that have hit Christchurch over the last year. Some parts of the city and suburbs will never be rebuilt, according to Moore, because the…

Theresa Werner: Candidate for Club president
With challenging times facing our industry, the future of the National Press Club has never been a more important topic. I’m writing as a journalist who has seen that first-hand. I worked at NBC4 and Associated Press Radio and Television. I am currently freelancing, which has allowed me to expand and improve my journalism skills, some I have not used in several years including hosting, producing and many technical skills. That’s where the Press Club comes in, helping fellow members improve our professional capabilities and networking with journalistic colleagues. I served two years as…
