Canon Rep at Photo Committee Meeting, Noon Feb. 17
Mike Sheras, Canon representative, will speak at the Photo Committee luncheon meeting at noon Wednesday, Feb. 17, at noon, in the McClendon Room. Sheras will talk about cameras that combine both still and video capabilities. These cameras should be of interest to journalists who are expected to write and also to shoot both photos and video. Sheras will also talk briefly about using flash techniques in low-light settings. All are welcome to attend, and no reservations are required; however, seating is limited in the McClendon Room.

Donald J. Frederick remembers clearly that day in January 1966 when Windsor P. Booth was inaugurated as the new president of the National Press Club. It was snowy weather, not unlike the kind Washington has been experiencing recently. Frederick, a writer-editor at the National Geographic, had been looking forward to the inauguration of Booth, his boss, and the head of the National Geographic wire service. Democracy Transformation Topic of Newsmaker, 4 pm March 9
The Bertelsmann Foundation will release and discuss the 2010 English-language edition of the Bertelsmann Transformation Index at a Newsmaker at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. The BTI measures the progress made by 128 "transition" countries toward democracy and a market-oriented economy. Hauke Hartmann and Sabine Donnerwill present the material.

Getting into Multimedia 103 Class, Feb. 23-25
Several spots are still available for NPC members in the Getting into Multimedia 103 class, Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 23-25. The class is the last in a series of three classes on learning and improving multimedia and is aimed at professional journalists and educators. You do not need to have participated in the previous classes to take the 103 class. The fee is $30 per class for NPC members. Each course takes place entirely online.
