New Media Committee
The Committee provides editorial content for the Club's web site. Like the Record, the content will be member-written. The content will include, but not be limited to, stories by Club members, articles on Club activities, and lists of sources and story ideas. The New Media Committee will also recommend other ways to utilize the Club's online resources, including webcasting, podcasting, bulletin boards and e-mail alerts. More Mentors Needed for NPC Program
As of this week, 11 members have applied to be mentees and eight to be mentors. Experienced journalists and PR pros who are willing to donate time to help young communicators develop are especially welcome. This is a one-year commitment aimed at benefiting members at all stages of their careers. The program is open to journalists and PR professionals. Once matches are made, mentors will be given a copy of the mentee's application to the program. Books & Brunch Discussion on Darwin and Lincoln, Noon April 17
Books & Brunch group will discuss “Angels and Ages: A Short Book about Darwin, Lincoln, and Modern Life” by Adam Gopnik at noon, Saturday, April 17, in the Fourth Estate Restaurant. Books & Brunch is open to all NPC members and guests. Free parking is available in the PMI garage on G Street between 13th and 14th streets to those who order a meal and bring their PMI ticket to be stamped. NPC's 2009 Int'l Press Freedom Award Presented to Recipient's Widow, 6:30 pm April 21
The widow of the 2009 recipient of the NPC Freedom of the Press Award for an international journalist will receive the honor on behalf of her late husband at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the Holeman Lounge. The presentation of the award will be followed by an interview conducted by Club member Marvin Kalb of Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center for Press, Politics and Public Policy. Sonali Samarasinghe will accept the award on behalf of Lasantha Wickramatunga, a Sri Lankan journalist who was murdered in January 2009.
