NPC Members Added to Standing Committee
NPC members Thomas Burr of the Salt Lake Tribune and Joe Morton of the Omaha World Herald are the new members of the Standing Committee of Correspondents, it was announced Tuesday. They join two other NPC members, Maureen Groppe of Gannett News Service, and Lisa Mascaro of the Las Vegas Sun, on the five-member committee.

President Donna Leinwand left Washington Thursday to cover aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake in Port au Prince, Haiti. Bjerga Becomes 103rd NPC President
Alan Bjerga, a reporter for Bloomberg News, was installed as the 103rd president of the National Press Club at the annual membership meeting Jan. 15. Bjerga accepted the gavel from past President Sylvia Smith, who stood in for President Donna Leinwand. Leinwand, a reporter for USA Today, was dispatched to Haiti to cover the earthquake and rescue efforts so was not able to attend the meeting.
