Rutherford Wine Dinner Nov. 4; $70 for Members
Rutherford Wine Co. wines will be featured at a Fourth Estate Wine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tickets are $70 for members and their guests, $93 for non-members. Veterans, Artists to Introduce Film on WWII African-American Soldiers 10 am Oct. 29
Veterans and producers and writers of a documentary chronicling the contributions of African American soldiers in World War II will preview the film at a Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Holeman Lounge. "Choc'late Soldiers from the USA" is an untold story of African-American soldiers in wartime England, a place where many of them, for the first time, experience equality and what it was truly like to be an American. Pulitzer Prize Photos to be Presented at Noon, Oct. 28
A trilogy of Pulitzer Prize-winning photos taken by Ron Edmonds, recently retired AP senior White House photographer, will be presented to the NPC on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at noon. Edmonds will add his Pulitzer photos to the Club's growing collection when he speaks to the NPC Photography Committee in the Zenger Room. Edmonds' photos of the Reagan assassination attempt in 1981 won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography.Edmonds' photos will be hung in the Club along with other Pulitzer photos taken by Max Desfor, Steve Crowley, Joe Marquette and Scott Applewhite. Outgoing NPC President Says Journalists Must Not Be Deterred After Terrorist Attack In Paris
Outgoing National Press Club President Myron Belkind believes the attack on the office of the Paris satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo is another example of the increasing dangers to journalists. Belkind discusses press freedom in this edition of Update-1, which is hosted by 50-year NPC member Irv Chapman. Belkind says journalists must maintain high professional standards even if there is increasing global intolerance for a free press.
