Senate Historian Offers Tips on Doing Oral Histories, 6 pm Nov. 9
Planning to interview your grandparents about the day they met, or that close family friend who was the sole eyewitness to an event that forever changed world history? Before you reach for that tape recorder, come to a program on conducting effective oral histories at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Senate Historian Donald Ritchie, author of "Doing Oral History: A Practical Guide," will cover the dos and don't in conducting effective oral histories. Hallowscreen Attracts "Stars"
Scarlett O'Hara, Dr. Strangelove, Groucho Marx, Marilyn Monroe and other Hollywood luminaries descended on the Club Oct. 30 for the Hallowscreen. Dr. Strangelove (Andrew Schneider, chairman of the Book & Author Committee) took home first place for best costume. Indie-rock band Deleted Scenes and DJ Matt Spangler provided spook-tacular musical entertainment, and Alisa Parenti, an award-winning anchor for Marketwatch Radio Network, emceed. Madrid, Cartegena, Egypt-Jordan Start 2010 NPC Trips
The National Press Club is sponsoring trips to Madrid, Colombia and Egypt-Jordan early next year, and there is still time to sign up for one or more of them. Club Receives Pulitzer-Winning Photos of Reagan Assassination Attempt
NPC President Donna Leinwand accepted a trilogy of Pulitzer Prize-winning photos of the 1981 Reagan assassination attempt taken by Ron Edmonds, who donated the photos to the Club at an Oct. 28 meeting of the Photography Committee. Edmonds retired recently as AP senior White House photographer. His photos will be hung with the Club's growing collection of Pulitzer-winning photography.

From new committee leadership in Congress to President Obama’s latest nominee to lead the Pentagon, 2015 could be a particularly newsworthy year for U.S. defense issues. Wine Tasting Raises $4,250 for Library
A wine tasting sponsored by the National Press Club, William-Harrison Imports and Bell Wine & Spirits raised $4,250 for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library. More than 400 people sampled wines from France, Spain and Argentina and snacked on tapas, bruschetta and cheese at the Oct. 23 event.
