It's considered the biggest snafu in Academy Award show history - a wrong envelope resulting in the wrong film being named "Best Picture" during this year's Oscars telecast. Vanity Fair Hollywood correspondent Rebecca Keegan talks to NPC Broadcast/Podcast Committee Member Veronica Vaquer about what it was like to cover the unfolding story backstage. National Press Club Backs Supreme Court Brief Seeking Broader FOIA Disclosure
The National Press Club has joined an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to encourage broad government disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA. The brief was filed Sept. 7 by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and media organizations in support of the release of U.S. Navy records about weapons being stored on an island in the Puget Sound. The case, Glen Scott Milner v. United States Department of the Navy, pertains to whether the government can withhold a "wide range" of documents under a FOIA exemption intended to cover trivial internal personnel rules…

ABC Veteran Hired to Run NPC Broadcast Operations
ABC News veteran Vija Udenans has been hired as director of broadcast operations effective Oct. 4. Udenans, whose career at ABC spanned more than 20 years, was ABC’s White House producer from 1994 to 2007. Recently she has been a Washington-based producer for “World News Tonight” and “Good Morning America." Earlier in her career, Udenans was director of broadcast operations for the ABC News Washington bureau. Despite Significant Loss in August, Club Beats Forecast
The Club had a substantial loss in August of $308,000, as expected, but still reported progress in its goal of improving results for the traditionally slowest month of the year. It had record revenue for the month of $533,000, an increase of nearly $100,000 over last year. At the same time, costs increased by just $19,000 over the same period despite the significant growth in revenue. The loss itself was $80,000 less than last year and $52,000 better than budget for the month.
