Ribbon Cut at Remodeled Reliable Source
NPC Vice President Mark Hamrick cut the ribbon Sept. 27 at the remodeled kitchen of the Reliable Source, accompanied by board members and officers of the Club. The new kitchen has an open design and is equipped to offer a variety of menu items not previously available, including pizza and panini. Rockwell Painting Returns to Its NPC Home
Norman Rockwell's painting of a his visit to a newspaper office has returned to the wall outside the Reliable Source. Since November 2009, “Norman Rockwell Visits a Country Editor” has been on loan to the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass. The museum curators designed the exhibit to examine the artistry in Rockwell’s reference photography, and it was met with even greater interest than anticipated. "Country Editor" appeared in the May 25, 1946, Saturday Evening Post and immortalizes the Monroe County Appeal, a weekly that has been published continuously in Paris, Mo., since 1867. It was…

At the 71 percent point in his term, our president, Alan Bjerga, is also managing to do a very respectable job at journalism -- in addition to his other duties. The Bloomberg agriculture reporter recently has found his way into print at BusinessWeek (now owned by Bloomberg). In between hosting NPC luncheons, filing wire accounts for Bloomberg and producing good vibes around the Club, Bjerga has managed to pen three BW stories in the last two months. The suggested attire for the Oct. 15 Fourth Estate Award dinner honoring Bob Schieffer, who has never lost his Texas twang, is Texas Festive. But what's that? Festive, in general, is considered semi-formal. For women, it means a bit of sparkle, such as a cocktail dress or beaded top with satin palazzo pants.
