Tony Horton, fitness trainer and creator of the P90X Extreme Home Fitness system, will address the national obesity epidemic and its effect on military recruits and members of the U.S. armed forces at a "boot camp" luncheon at 1 p.m. Friday, July 16. A series of short films with international themes will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, in the conference rooms. A panel discussion with some of the producers will follow. The films are the opening set of the 2010 NPC summer documentary series. There is no admission charge. Durbin Says For-Profit Colleges Should be Reined In
Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., called for a check on the unregulated growth and rising costs of for-profit colleges at a Newsmaker press conference June 30. When long-time member Joe Sutherland was invited to join the Club, he was a guest at the bar one evening, where he met former NPC President Frank Holeman. Sutherland recalls: When I first met Frank Holeman at the old Press Club bar in '79, I think it was, Frank had on an interesting ring. I asked him what it was.
