The next Dinner and a Movie Night is scheduled for 7 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 29, in the McClendon Room. This month’s feature is “J. Edgar” starring Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover in a biopic story of the colorful life and career of Hoover during his long tenure as FBI director. Program finalized for South African Night honoring Nelson Mandela legacy Nov. 26
A full two-hour program has been finalized for the South African Night onthe "Life, Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela" from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. onMonday, Nov. 26, in the Ballroom that will start with a performance of atraditional South African gumboot dance. The Taratibu Youth Association from Mt. Rainier, Md., will set the scene forthe evening with its 20 members dancing and simultaneously singing as an acappella group a traditional South African work song, "Shosholoza," and aspiritual song, "Hlonolofatsa." Absentee ballots for the annual election of Club officers and governors of Friday, Dec. 14, are now available from the Membership Department. Requests for absentee ballots must be submitted in writing to Sarahanne Driggs in the Membership Department. E-mail requests to [email protected] will be accepted. All requests must include the member name, number and home or temporary address. Ballots cannot be mailed to business addresses. 'Honor Flight' film, discussion on tap Nov. 27
The story of how a Wisconsin community pooled resources to fly its remaining World War II veterans to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., is the subject of a documentary film, “Honor Flight,” that will be screened at the National Press Club on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m. A brief panel discussion featuring the film’s director, Don Hayes, will follow the screening. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will address what lies ahead for the U.S. military at a luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the National Press Club. Secretary Panetta has led the Defense Department since 2011.
