Angela Greiling Keane, a reporter for Bloomberg News and current vice president, was elected the 106th president of the National Press Club. She will succeed Theresa Werner, a freelance journalist. Her ascent to the club's presidency follows years of service to the club on the Young Members, Membership and Speakers committees. National Press Club members can vote until 7 p.m. tonight for next year's NPC officers and some members of the Board of Governors. Polls opened at 8 a.m. in the 14th floor studio and will close at 7 p.m. There is only one contested election -- four Journalist members are vying for three seats on the Board of Governors. Islamic Cooperation Commission says human rights, not religion, will be focus
Making its first appearance in the nation’s capital Dec. 13, the newly established Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation outlined its priorities for improving human rights of women and children. Many National Press Club members and friends attended a special program on Nelson Mandela and to hear stories about him and his country. Now they have a chance to visit South Africa and see places where Mandela spent most of his life. The NPC is conducting a trip to South Africa May 12-24, 2013, which also includes Victoria Falls and Botswana. John Adams, former journalist, public affairs firm founder and NPC member, dies at 81
John Adams, who reported from Britain, Africa, Germany and the U.S., where he worked for ABC and CBS News, died at his home in Lovettsville, Virginia, according to an article posted Dec. 11 on Capitol Communicator. Adams had recently published a memoir, “In the Trenches: Adventures in Journalism and Public Affairs,” according to the Communicator article. The article describes how Adams worked for Radio Free Europe in Munich as an editor, later becoming Bonn bureau chief and acting head of the news division.
