Club membership dues increase $12 in 2013
National Press Club dues increased $1 per month at the beginning of the year, marking a return to a policy of small annual fee hikes. Nearly all membership categories experienced the increase except for students, interns, spouses, partners, widows and inactives. The additional revenue will help maintain membership benefits and ensure the Club’s long-term sustainability in the case of unforeseen contingencies that dramatically affect its operations. Fourth Estate restaurant will open for lunch inaugural Monday
On Monday, Jan. 21 - Martin Luther King Day and the day of President Obama’s inaugural - the Fourth Estate Restaurant will open for lunch. The restaurant welcomes the public and may be a great recommendation for non-members coming downtown for the parade and ceremony. The Fourth Estate will serve the regular menu featuring crab cakes, shrimp risotto, and the world’s best Angus burger. Salads include the ever-popular calamari and steak salads. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden will take their official second-term oaths of office at their residences Sunday, Jan. 20, the date required by the Constitution, Brent Colburn of the Presidential Inaugural Committee said Wednesday, Jan. 16 at a National Press Club Newsmaker. National Press Club member Paul Dickson told a Jan. 15 National Press Club Book Rap that presidential language reveals the 43 men who have occupied the White House. “You can look at the different presidents and really see who was clever, remarkably clever. I mean really the smartest,” he said. He quoted favorite phrases from his new book, "Words From the White House: Words or Phrases Coined or Popularized by America’s Presidents." Inaugural planners to unveil schedule at Newsmaker tomorow, Jan. 16
On Wednesday, Jan. 16, at noon, the National Press Club will host a Newsmaker news conference featuring a panel of speakers from the Presidential Inaugural Committee, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Events, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Capitol Police, and military representatives.
