National Press Club journalism contest recognizes photo excellence
The National Press Club’s journalism contest will present awards for excellence in news photography for the first time this year. The contest will recognize excellence for an individual news photo and for a news picture story (with a maximum of nine photos). The contest is limited to photos taken during 2012. The photo awards are intended to honor professional photojournalists who have produced outstanding work, either independently for news organizations or as employees of those news organizations. Club member Irwin Goodwin dies; covered Sputnik, moon missions
A prize-winning journalist and long-time National Press Club member who covered major political events and scientific breakthroughs, Irwin Goodwin, died in September at age 85. "He was an eccentric pain but you couldn't help but love him," said Hanna Hunt, his companion of 32 years. Goodwin began his career as a freelance writer and book reviewer for the City News in Chicago. While there, he also began writing for Newsweek and would spend the next 13 years between the New York and London offices writing for the space and science sections. Pakistan flood photographer plans discussion at meeting of Photo, ICC committees, Feb. 12
Satomi Kato will discuss her photo exhibit, "Rebuilding Hope after the Pakistan Floods," at a joint luncheon meeting of the Nation Press Club's Photography and International Correspondents Committees at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the McClendon Room.
