NPC Communicators Committee cancels February breakfast
The National Press Club Communicators Committee breakfast planned for Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 8 a.m. in the NPC's Reliable Source's Truman Lounge has been canceled because the speaker from the White House News Summary is unable to attend. Another Communicators Committee breakfast is being planned for late March and will be announced at a later date.

National Press Club plans women's suffrage centennial celebration, Feb 28 at 6 p.m.
One hundred years ago, suffragist Alice Paul and about 8,000 marchers from every state in the nation and every country where women had the vote led the historic women’s suffrage procession down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. In honor of this anniversary, the National Press Club is hosting a reception Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ballroom. Admission is $15, $10 for NPC members with promotional code. Past women NPC presidents prepare to speak on panel
On March 1 at 6 p.m., in the the Holeman Lounge, the National Press Club plans to celebrate Women's History Month with a panel discussion from past NPC female presidents. The panel discussion will be moderated by 2012 NPC President Theresa Werner and is expected to include Vivian Vahlberg (1982), Kay Vose (1991), Sylvia Smith (2008) and Donna Leinwand Leger (2009). National Press Club asks President Obama to fulfill FOIA promises
The National Press Club joined a coalition of 49 groups writing to President Barack Obama last week to underscore concern that the administration isn't living up to its open-government goals. The president issued a memorandum on January 21, 2009 -- his first full day in office -- to all federal agencies stating that the Freedom of Information Act "encourages accountability through transparency" and "is the most prominent expression of a profound national commitment to ensuring an open government." This Week in National Press Club History: Neil Armstong examines 'the Engineering Century'
Feb. 22, 2000: Astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, outlined in a National Press Club Luncheon the top engineering achievements of the 20th century. Describing himself modestly as “a nerdy engineer,” who carried a slide rule with him on his July 1969 momentous journey, Armstrong analyzed the “the Engineered Century” and topping his list were electronics, water purification, the airplane, the automobile, and rural electrification. “Truly it has been a magical century,” he concluded.
