AMVETS, the American Veterans nonprofit, honored John Fales, Jr., also known as "Sgt. Shaft" in his Washington Times newspaper column on veterans issues, was honored at its annual awards banquet April 6 at the Hilton Hotel in Alexandria, Va. Press Club: Judge should drop effort to compel reporter to reveal anonymous sources
The National Press Club on April 5 respectfully urged a Colorado judge to drop his push to force a reporter to reveal her confidential sources for a story about the alleged shooter in the last July’s shooting spree in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater. Jana Winter of Fox News reported days after the deadly shooting that the defendant in the case, James Holmes, had sent his psychiatrist detailed drawings of people being killed before the shootings occurred. Nestle executive forecasts growth in bottled water despite environmental concerns

International Red Cross leader to update crises in Afghanistan, Syria and Mali April 11
Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), will update the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, Syria and Mali Thursday, April 11, at 10 a.m. in the Fourth Estate Restaurant. Armed conflicts in these countries are killing, destroying infrastructure and, in some cases, sending refugees into neighboring countries.
