Cuba’s minister of public health to discuss prevention of STDs, especially AIDS
Roberto Morales, Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, will discuss Cuba’s program for preventing sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV AIDS, at a Newsmaker news conference on Wednesday, July 1 at 10 a.m. in the Murrow Room. A committee of independent experts assembled by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization visited Cuba in March and analyzed the nation’s progress in eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis. Kalb Report wins top broadcasting award
For the second time, the National Press Club's premier forum, "The Kalb Report," won the Gold World Medal in the New York Festival's International Radio Awards Competition. Host Marvin Kalb and Executive Producer Michael Freedman accepted the award June 22 for their program last October that featured a rare joint appearance by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to talk about their Watergate investigation 40 years after the resignation of President Richard M. The Capitol region’s premiere holiday book event, the National Press Club Book Fair & Author Night, is back for the 38th year and now accepting applications from authors. The deadline to apply is close of business Sept. 25. Applicants will be notified via email by Oct. 9. This year's Book Fair will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Club. Learn how to surf the Web anonymously and protect your smart phone from hackers
The Journalism Institute’s cyber security course continues this Saturday, June 27 with a daylong hands-on training in anonymous Web browsing, smart phone security, and counter-surveillance techniques. Organized by the Institute’s Freedom of the Press Committee, the class is the second in a three-part series. U.S. to collaborate on Swiss model for apprenticeships
American and Swiss officials will present details of the Swiss apprenticeship program and U.S.- Swiss planned collaboration to establish a program in the U.S. modeled on that program Thursday, June 25 at 10 a.m. On July 9, the U.S. and Switzerland will sign a Joint Declaration of Intent to collaborate.
