Club closed for Christmas
The National Press Club will be closed Friday and Saturday to enable its employees to spend Christmas with their families. Club operations will resume Monday, Dec. 28. The Club's officers, governors and staff wish all members happy holidays.

House Armed Services Committee chairman to speak at Jan. 13 luncheon
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) will speak at a Club luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Thornberry is looking at ways to overhaul how the Pentagon buys its weapons systems, involving defense contractors in the effort. He succeeded Rep. Buck McKeon of California, who retired, as chairman in January 2015. Thornberry was first elected in the Republican landslide of 1994 that ended 40 years of Democratic control of the House. The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.…

Learn how to interview sexual assault survivors at Jan. 8 Club event
A panel of experts will help journalists learn how to interview sexual assault survivors and avoid pitfalls that could compromise a good story or unnecessarily harm a survivor. Barbara S. Bahny, 56, Club member for 14 years
Barbara S. Bahny, former director of public relations at the Willard InterContinental Hotel and a 14-year National Press Club member, died Dec. 19 in New York City. Bahny was 56 and had lung cancer. She had returned recently to her native New York to be director of public relations at the InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel. She enjoyed singing opera and had traveled extensively. She was a spokeswoman for the Israel Tourist Office in New York prior to her career with InterContinental Hotels. She is survived by her brothers, Nathan and Jay. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.…

Protection of press freedom, national parks provides theme for Burr inaugural, Jan. 23
The Board of Governors will present “Our American Treasures,” a gala on Jan. 23, 2016, to celebrate the inauguration of Thomas Burr as the 109th president of the National Press Club. The gala for Burr, the Washington correspondent for The Salt Lake Tribune, will pay tribute to two of America's most valued traditions: the preservation of truly inspirational landscapes – in a nod to the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service – and the protection of the freedoms of the press.
