All photos are due by COB Friday, Aug. 14, for the 16th Annual NPC Members' Photography Exhibition. Entries may be dropped off in the Club's Membership Office. Each member may submit up to four photos, and each photo may not exceed 11x14” (print and mat). All prints must be securely mounted and matted. The exhibit, sponsored by the Club's Photography Committee, is open to all Club members and is not juried. Obit: Philip Wakeford Steitz III, World War II veteran and journalist
Philip Wakeford Steitz III, a 31-year member of the NPC and a long-time resident of Washington D.C., died July 29 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 90. Philip was a member of the NPC from 1978 to 2009. His son, David, is an NPC member. Born in Evanston, Ill., Philip served during World War II as a sergeant major in the horse cavalry and then in military intelligence in the China-Burma-India Theater. After the war, he graduated from Georgetown University and earned a master's degree in philosophy from Columbia University. After graduation, he worked briefly in New York…

Air Force Secretary to speak at Dec. 2 luncheon
Deborah Lee James, the 23rd secretary of the Air Force, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Dec. 2. James will address budget cuts, sexual assaults and other issues facing the Air Force. Jane Chu, the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, will outline her plans for its 50th anniversary activities at a National Press Club Newsmaker Breakfast on Sep. 28. Coast Guard Commandant Zukunft seeks bigger budget
Admiral Paul F. Zukunft, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, expressed optimism the 225-year-old service is in line for its largest ever acquisition budget boost in response to challenges including Russia's militarization of the Arctic and recent cyber threats.
