Club Member Dick Sayler dies
National Press Club member Richard H. Sayler died Aug. 7, in Bentleyville Village, Ohio. Dick also lived in Baltimore. He had been a spousal member of NPC since 2013. Martha J. Lockwood, long-time NPC member, was his committed life partner. A native of Rochester, N. Y., Dick graduated from Dartmouth College and Michigan Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Michigan Law Review. He was law clerk for Chief Judge J. Edward Lumbard of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and Associate Justice Byron R. White of the U. S. Supreme Court. Thereafter, he served for several years in the…

The queen's husband discussed the moral dimensions of ecology and religion. Prince Philip was in Washington, DC to address the Festival of Creation, an environmental celebration. He is the international president of the World Wildlife Fund. The World Wildlife Fund is a non-profit, publicly supported organization that relies on individual contributions and grants from foundations and corporations. It concentrates most of its efforts on the conservation of tropical forests in South America, Africa and Asia. They also lobby for laws to help conserve endangered species and the environment.

CNN fielded the largest and fastest media team in the NPC Beat the Deadline 5K race on Saturday, Sept. 5. The cable news runners were among the 391 participants who ran and walked a course that stretched from the National Press Building in downtown Washington to Capitol Hill. The top male runner was Patrick Kuhlmann, 44, who completed the race in 16:34. Vanessa Corcoran, 29, was the first woman to finish, with a time of 20:45. Among Club members, David Pritchard, 31, was the fastest male (18:03) and Natalie Diblasio, 25, was the fastest woman (25:16). A total of 489 people registered for the…

NPC Member Lori Russo Promoted to President of Stanton Communications
National Press Club Speakers Committee member Lori Russo has been promoted to president of Stanton Communications, which she joined in 1999 as an entry-level account coordinator. Club member Peter Stanton will retain the title of CEO of the quarter-century old firm. Another First! Monday, Sept. 14 NPC Event Now a “Breakfast from Outer Space”
The National Press Club’s Monday, Sept. 14 breakfast with astronauts Mark Kelly and Terry Virts will now be, in part, a “breakfast from outer space,” as the Club has arranged for a videolink with astronaut Scott Kelly –- Mark’s twin brother -– from the International Space Station. The breakfast, which will follow the NPC luncheon format, will be the first-ever NPC event linked with an astronaut out in space.
