Indira Williams Babic, Director of Photography and Visual Resources at the Newseum, will speak to a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club's Photography Committee, Wednesday, April 20, at noon in the McClendon Room. National Press Club Condemns Murder of Syrian Journalist
The National Press Club condemned the murder this week of Syrian journalist Mohammed Zahir al-Sherqat in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. This is reportedly the fourth murder of a Syrian journalist in Turkey that has been claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group, or ISIL. Jay Newton-Small, Washington correspondent for Time Magazine, was inspired to her write Broad Influence: How Women Are Changing the Way America Works after writing a story about the women of the Senate coming together to end the federal-government shutdown of 2013, she told a National Press Club Book Rap April 13. Gennadi Gerasimov, head of the Soviet Foreign Ministry's Information Directorate, spoke about U.S.-Soviet relations, recent political events in eastern Europe and tensions in the Persian Gulf.
