University of Missouri System President Middleton to speak at Speakers Breakfast
Michael Midddleton, the University of Missouri System interim president, will speak at a National Press Club Speakers breakfast on Tuesday, June 21. Middleton was appointed to head the University of Missouri last year following racial tension and protests on its flagship campus. He will speak about moving the university forward amid a national conversation about diversity, equity and inclusion that was sparked by the protests. Richard D. Lamm, Director of the University of Denver's Center for Public Policy and Contemporary Issues, spoke on "The Brave New World of Public Policy." He sees the economy of the 1990's as being one that cannot support the dreams of the 1960's. Mr. Lamm's basic premise is that too much of the nation's resources are going to elderly who do not need help, while too many children, now the poorest population segment, lack basic medical care and education. David McCullough will sign books after Thursday’s morning’s Kalb Report
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough, the guest on Thursday's Kalb Report, will sign books after his appearance. While no more tickets are available for the program, Club members can watch it on a screen and then bring books for McCullough to sign. Members should arrive by 10:30 a.m. Seating for that also is limited and people will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. The broadcast begins at 11 a.m. and McCullough will be available after the taping is completed at around 12:15 p.m. to sign copies of his books, 1776 and The Wright Brothers.

NPC members' annual photo exhibit nears
National Press Club members are invited to enter the 2016 photo exhibit, which will run from Aug. 31-Sept. 30. Entries from pro and amateur photographers alike are accepted August 1 to 12 in the Club membership office. Members can enter up to four photos up to 11 x 14, which will be hung by the Photography Committee in the Club lobby. An opening reception in the lobby will take place Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. After the exhibit ends, please pick up your entries at the membership office by Friday, Oct. 14. Discussion on book about women politicians moved to Wednesday
The event featuring former political reporter Teri Finneman and her book, "Press Portrayals of Women Politicians, 1870s-2000s," has been moved to Wednesday.
