2011 NPC Journalism Awards Ceremony
The Washington Post won two first-place awards, while The Seattle Times, The Salt Lake Tribune, McClatchy Newspapers and The Wall Street Journal won one apiece in the annual National Press Club journalism awards competition. Each year, the National Press Club confers its John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award on two people whose actions contribute to the cause of press freedom and open government. Aubuchon was a late NPC president and an ardent advocate of press freedom. This year's honorees both covered the uprisings in the Mideast and both faced horrific repression. The First Amendment Center, in partnership with the National Press Club, Freedom Forum and the American Society of News Editors, released results of its 2011 State of the First Amendment Survey on July 12, 2011 at the National Press Club.
