NPC Headliner: Ken Burns Previews "The Vietnam War"
Filmmakers Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, Sarah Botstein and Retired Air Force Chief of Staff General Merrill A. McPeak, a Vietnam War veteran, presented a special "members-only" NPC Headliner preview of their PBS documentary series "The Vietnam War" at the National Press Club on June 14th, 2017. Following the screening they discussed the work and their process, and took questions from NPC president Jeff Ballou and the audience.

When Journalism Becomes the Story: Highlights
The challenges to journalists are coming fast and furious: Access denied; outright falsehoods; alternative facts; sources afraid to talk. The National Press Club Journalism Institute, the club’s professional training affiliate, joined forces with another non-profit dedicated to journalism education, the National Press Foundation, to host a half-day symposium on the morning of April 19, 2017. Our panelists included beat reporters and industry leaders. The goal: to help the working press begin brainstorming on how to navigate the treacherous landscape facing us today.

Jeff Ballou Inaugural Speech

NPC Forum: Merriman Smith and UPI's Glory Days
In the 1960s UPI and AP fought head to head for every second of every story. No one epitomized that competition more than Merriman Smith, who served as UPI’s White House correspondent from the Franklin Roosevelt administration through Richard Nixon. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of John Kennedy’s assassination. The National Press Club's History and Heritage Committee presented a program on Smith and UPI’s Glory Days on November 17, 2016 featuring panelists who worked with and/or knew Smith, including Bill Sanderson, Al Spivak, Gwen Gibson, Sid Davis and Tom Johnson.
