The Inauguration of Michael Freedman, 113th President of The National Press Club
On January 18, 2020, one of the great traditions in Press Club culture took place as hundreds from the journalism and educational communities joined to celebrate the Inauguration of the 113th President of the National Press Club, Michael Freedman. Mike is Executive Producer of the multi-award winning Kalb Report public broadcasting series, Journalist-in-Residence at University of Maryland Global Campus, and the former General Manager of CBS Radio Network.

Austin Tice: Children of Syria
In 2012, Austin Tice -- a Georgetown University alumnus, freelance journalist, and veteran captain of the U.S. Marine Corps from Houston, Texas -- traveled to Syria to report on the unfolding crisis for McClatchy News, The Washington Post, and other publications. He traveled extensively across the country. Austin was detained at a checkpoint near Damascus on August 14, 2012 and is still being held in Syria. A Celebration of the Life of Julie Schoo
National Press Club Journalism Institute Executive Director Julie Schoo, who blessed the club with her intelligence, quick wit, compassion and grace for more than three decades, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at her home in Bethesda. News of her unexpected passing has prompted an outpouring of fond memories and gratitude from the club's more than 3,100 members worldwide, many of whom Julie recruited during her tenure as the NPC’s membership director.
