New Club President Edney assumes gavel, calls for defense of journalism under siege
Andrea Edney of Bloomberg News became the 111th National Press Club president Jan. 19 by accepting the gavel from Jeff Ballou of Al Jazeera, at the Club’s General Membership meeting. The Club's ace volunteer photographer, Noel St. John, will speak at the next meeting of the Photography Team, Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 12 noon in the Cosgrove Room. This event is free and open to all National Press Club members and their guests. St. John, the Team's photo coordinator, is a familiar presence at Club events and is responsible for many of the photos that accompany articles on the Wire and the Club's home page. Exploratory committee meets to discuss Palisades Parade participation, tonight 6 p.m.
An exploratory committee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in the Truman Lounge to discuss the National Press Club potentially participating in the July 4 Palisades Parade in D.C. The one-hour meeting will by the piano in the lounge. The Palisades Parade is D.C.'s premier Independence Day civic parade, running up MacArthur Blvd, N.W., from Whitehaven Parkway to the Palisades Recreation Center. To celebrate author A. A. Milne’s birthday, the Reliable Source will host a "Kids Night,: honoring Winnie the Pooh Day, with buffet fit for the Hundred Acre Wood - including an appearance by Pooh Bear himself -- this Thursday.
