Club members Abby Livingston of the Texas Tribune, Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times, Shawna Thomas of Vice News and Sarah Wire of the Los Angeles Times will take the field as part of the reporters' team at the annual Congressional Women's Softball Game on Wednesday, June 21. Jim Noone to command NPC American Legion Post 20
James A. Noone, a Vietnam War veteran and retired Navy captain, will be sworn in as commander of National Press Club American Legion Post 20 on June 2 at the annual convention of the D.C. Department of the Legion at Bolling Air Force Base. Noone, a 38-year Club member with nearly 40 years of experience in Washington in journalism, public affairs, law and government relations, was elected to succeed Kenneth Dalecki at a Post election meeting on Thursday, May 25. The combination of the National Press Club’s former Newsmakers, Speakers, and Book & Author Committees into a new Headliners Team this year is going successfully, according to Club President Jeff Ballou. Big Blue softball team opens season, eyes tenth straight playoff appearance
Big Blue, the National Press Club’s coed softball team, owns a 2-2 record after its first four games in the Metropolitan Media Softball League’s 2017 season. Big Blue has victories over CBS and Atlantic Media and losses to WJLA and Bloomberg. Weather has been the big story in the league season so far this spring. Games were scheduled to begin on April 22, but rainouts have forced postponements in three of the first four game dates thus far. Update: First Friday Taco Night, photo rule tweak based on member response
Slight update to June's First Friday Taco Night: Members can still learn how to get more involved at the National Press Club but based on member feedback, President Jeff Ballou will only allow photos in the Reliable Source by an approved photographer for this night only.
