NPC Journalism Institute's annual golf tournament postponed; new date to be announced
Because of the the sudden death of the National Press Club's Journalism Institute Executive Director Julie Schoo, the Institute board has decided to postpone its annual golf tournament fundraiser until later this year. A new date will be announced in the coming months. The tournament had been scheduled for May 29 at Woodmere Country Club in Mitchellville, Md. All ticket purchasers have received a full refund. Club member Gallo receives Wharton School citation
Club member Anthony E. Gallo was named the recipient of The Wharton Graduate Emeritus Society 2018 Crandall Challenge Citation of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania for his work as a dramatist, journalist, and economist. President Trump, Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, and John Huntsman are also among graduates of the school. Gallo was also the keynote address speaker at the school's 2018 reunion dinner. He is the only known dramatist in the 140 history of the school.

Toastmasters meets Monday in McClendon Room
The National Press Club chapter of Toastmasters will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the McClendon Room. At its last meeting, the Toastmasters vice president of education conducted a mock radio interview about one of her favorite charities, Dress for Success. Conversations with visiting Chinese journalism students on Thursday
The Young Members Team will host an informal gathering at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cosgrove Lounge with nine students visiting Washington from Tsinghua University, the Communications University of China and other prominent journalism schools to participate in the USA Summer Journalism Training Program. Funeral for former NPC President David Hess to be held Saturday in Ohio
Former National Press Club President David Hess will be remember in a graveside ceremony with military honors at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery on E. Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. Hess's wife, Dorothea, and his two children, Laura Cary Hess and Daniel Robert Hess, are also buried in this cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, or to its local chapter of donor choice.
