The NPC Scholarship Committee needs your help! We will be judging for the Zimmerman Award on Saturday morning, August 29. The Richard G. Zimmerman Scholarship is a $5,000 grant to help an incoming college freshman pursue a career in journalism. Because of the pandemic, we judged the first big scholarship last weekend --Julie Schoo Diversity in Journalism Award --virtually. Thanks to lots of work by our NPC tech experts and Joann Booz, our first attempt at virtual judging using Zoom was a success. Emergency repairs could mean no air conditioning in Club all week
The National Press Building Engineering team discovered a leak in the air conditioning system and began work Monday afternoon to fix it. As a result the whole building - including the Club - was expected to be without air conditioning Monday night, Tuesday and most likely Wednesday as well. The Building informs us that in a worst case scenario we might not have air conditioning all week. Temperatures and humidity will be high during this period so members should evaluate their plans to visit the Club and should feel free to dress accordingly for a non-air conditioned Club. Communications expert urges preparation and testing of crisis management plans

National Press Club members and their guests are invited to come to Reliable Source, where special lunch and dinner menus are available. We are open! Among the featured items are entrees, such as steak, salmon, halibut, or shrimp with vegetables and potatoes/rice. Today the National Press Club unveiled its new Career Center. Featuring an interactive and customizable job board and valuable resources for both job seekers and employers, the NPC Career Center is designed to help journalists and communications professionals find new employment opportunities, and serve as a one-stop recruiting ground for industry employers. Registration closes Friday noon for NPC September Step Challenge
The National Press Club is now registering teams for the National Press Club September Step Challenge. All registration fees will go to the NPC Staff Support Fund, which helps staff members who have been furloughed due to a slowdown in business operations caused by the coronavirus pandemic. To participate members will need to form teams, wear a step tracking device throughout the competition and submit their tally. Register team captains and members and find more information online.
