Repairs shut down 14th floor stairs
Beginning today at 5 a.m. and continuing until 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, maintenance will occur at the National Press Club. The use of the marble stairs to access the 14th floor Reliable Source, fitness center and freelance alley will be restricted for necessary repair work to the ceiling above. We ask that everyone use the small service elevator located on the conference rooms side of the Club to navigate up and down between the two levels.

Celebrate Oktoberfest at the Reliable Source, Oct. 18
The National Press Club will celebrate Oktoberfest in the Reliable Source with a very special celebration starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. The price of the buffet is $25 for Club members and $32 for nonmembers plus tax and gratuity. Food and drinks menu to follow soon. Club election candidate nominations open today
Nominations for the National Press Club Board of Governors officer and governor positions open to members on Oct. 1. On Sept. 24, the board approved Jonathan Salant to chair the election board and an election calendar that is available below. Those interested in running for office can come to the president's office on the 14th floor to see the positions that are available and can download a nomination template to gather the required signatures to qualify for the elections. NPC in History: The face that launched television?
Browsing through the National Press Club’s 1936 Year Book, I saw a timeline of great events in Club history up until then. There, for the year 1923, it said: “Premier television demonstration.” Television in 1923? That was 16 years before David Sarnoff introduced all-electronic television at the New York World’s Fair in 1939 and 24 years before Howdy Doody first aired. What happened at the Club that early? National Press Club members are invited to a screening of the film Tharlo and a discussion with award-winning Tibetan film director Pema Tseden on Monday, Sept. 24, hosted by the Confucius Institute U.S. Center.
