Runners, supporters needed for Foley Freedom Run Oct. 17
The National Press Club is recruiting runners and walkers to join the Club team to raise money to support the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. The Sixth Annual Foley Freedom Run will take place take place virtually this year at a venue of your choosing beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Registration is $40, which includes a T-shirt. Proceeds go to the Club’s goal of raising $2,500 for the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. The foundation helps advocate for the freedom of all Americans held hostage abroad and promotes the safety of journalists worldwide. Runners can sign up here. …

D.C. Women Writers read from ‘Furious Gravity’ during virtual Book Rap Oct. 6
To commemorate the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, the National Press Club's Book and Author Group will present a Virtual Book Rap featuring authors reading from Furious Gravity, the ninth volume of the “Grace and Gravity” series of literary journals at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. Last October, freelance writer Skip Kaltenheuser visited roadside attractions and national parks in China, some not far from Wuhan, when clear sunny days instead of the usual urban haze brought crowds on holiday visits. Kaltenheuser captured photos of those crowded outdoor venues, with everyone unaware that in a few weeks Wuhan would become synonymous with the global COVID-19 pandemic.
