Visit Virginia's Cold War Museum on June 21 with American Legion Post 20
The Club's American Legion Post 20 plans a field trip on Friday, June 21, to Vint Hill, Virginia, to tour the Cold War Museum and then attend a wine tasting to hear a presentation on the history of Vint Hill Farms Station, a military listening post from World War II through the Cold War. Two editors will offer tips on how to cover the national political conventions at a Professional Development Team event on Thursday. June 20. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. The speakers will be Susan Page, USA Today Washington bureau chief, and Annah Aschbrenner, senior deputy campaign editor at The Washington Post. Watch the presidential debate June 27 at the Reliable Source
Come watch the first presidential debate at the Club. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will debate Thursday, June 27, starting at 9 p.m., and the Reliable Source and the Truman Lounge will be open for members and their guests. There will a buffet that night at a cost of $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers, plus tax and tip, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 9:45. Club members visit Cold War Museum and Winery on historic site
Members of the National Press Club and its affiliated American Legion Post 20 enjoyed a private tour of the Cold War Museum at Vint Hill, Virginia, June 21. Vint Hill Farms Station, in Fauquier County, was also known as Monitoring Station No. 1, and it served as a top secret signals intelligence base during World War II and the Cold War. Vint Hill Farms Station was decommissioned in 1997. The tour included a wine tasting at Vint Hill Craft Winery, located in a historic barn where signals personnel intercepted critical intelligence during World War II. National Press Club members enjoy complimentary access to the Club's Fitness Center Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The center features a Peloton bike, free weights, treadmill, and elliptical trainers or as a warmup before running on the Mall.
