Today at noon: General membership meeting
Join fellow National Press Club members at the first general membership meeting of 2020 on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at noon in the Murrow Room. The meeting business will include an update on the Club’s financial and membership status, as well the handing of the gavel from President Alison Fitzgerald Kodjak to President-elect Mike Freedman. Members will also be treated to lunch during the meeting. Members who are unable to attend in person can watch the meeting via webcast on www.press.org. Three reporter-source happy hours planned for 2020; first one, Feb. 12
The National Press Club Communicators Team is planning at least three reporter-source happy hours in the Reliable Source during 2020. The first, to focus on campaigns, elections and politics, is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12. To RSVP, please register here. Quarterly Communicators Dinner to be held Jan. 15
The National Press Club Communicators’ Team invites Club members to our next Communicators Roundtable Dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The goal is to have journalists and communicators share concerns, ideas, approaches and strategies on issues that both face, helping them to be more effective. These quarterly dinners are held in the Winners’ Room. Pub Quiz returns on Thursday
The National Press Club's first Pub Quiz of the new year is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the Truman Lounge. There will prizes and food and drinks. Teams consist of four to six people, and if you don't have a team, emcee Marc Wojno will find you a place on someone else's. A monthly staple of the Club for nearly two decades, Pub Quiz is sponsored by the Club’s Events Team. Club has a Fitness Center and personal trainer for members
The National Press Club Fitness Center is located on the 14th Floor. The Fitness Center is a facility that houses all the essential equipment needed to provide a total body workout. The center offers members and staff the use of free weights, Nautilus equipment, ellipticals, treadmills, male and female locker rooms, and a full-time professional trainer. Publishing expert says audio books biggest trend
Jane Friedman, one of the premier book publishing experts in the United States, told the National Press Club’s informal independent authors group last week that audio books are the trend today in book publishing. Friedman made brief comments saying eBooks and Amazon revolutionized book publishing in the last decade and then opened the floor to questions from Club members for more than an hour.
