Although membership has dipped and a profit is not forecast for the foreseeable future, the National Press Club is holding up well despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Club leaders said Friday, Oct. 15. “Our business is making progress, and our membership is solid,” Club President Lisa Nicole Matthews told the Club’s virtual General Membership Meeting. “I’ve seen the Club come back. Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Nov. 5, for National Press Club offices and seats on the Board of Governors. The five officer positions, restricted to Journalist members, are president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and membership secretary. Members wishing to run for National Press Club office or a position on the Board of Governors have until the close of business today, Nov. 8 to get their petitions in. Candidates must gather 25 signatures from Journalist members to run for president and 15 signatures for all other positions. The signatures can be gathered either online or in person. National Press Club Communicator board seat to be elected through write-in ballots
Nobody garnered the required number of signatures to qualify for the three-year, nonvoting Communicator seat on the National Press Club Board of Governors, so the person with the most write-in votes will fill the position. No candidates' names will appear on the ballot. Communicator members wishing to vote will write in the name of the person they support. The Club member with the most write-ins will be elected.
