Judges needed to help select Zimmerman Scholarship recipient, July 24
The National Press Club Scholarship Awards Team needs your help! We plan to judge applicants for the 2021 Zimmerman Award for high school seniors on Saturday, July 24. The Club's scholarship awards have been life-changing for past recipients, and you can contribute to that experience by helping review these entries. We are going to decide winners virtually in Zoom groups. Judges will receive a set of online applications of semi-finalists to read during the week leading up to July 24. Fitness Center adds Peloton bike
The National Press Club Fitness Center has added a Peloton bike to its equipment lineup. The Peloton bike is a socially connected, immersive indoor machine that offers access to studio cycling classes as well as more than 10,000 on-demand workouts ranging in difficulty, length and theme. Riders can track their progress with detailed metrics and race other riders on a real-time leader board. A diverse team of instructors leads classes, allowing users to find a workout that's right for them. A recent story in The Washington Post, written by National Press Club Member Jason Rezaian, describes the experience of Mohammad Mosaed, an award winning Iranian journalist whose coverage of anti-government demonstrations, Internet shutdowns and Iran’s crumbling economy led to his arrest and a long prison sentence. Club coed softball team wraps short season with new players looking ahead to 2022
The National Press Club's Big Blue coed softball team made it to the Metropolitan Media Softball League's playoffs for the 12th consecutive season this past weekend, the longest active streak in the league, but fell short of winning the league championship in this COVID-19 pandemic-delayed season. The team defeated the Washington Post team in the first game of the tournament, 13-4, but then lost the next two games in the double-elimination tournament and were eliminated from further contention. Last call: Annual photo exhibit entry deadline is today
Today, Friday, Aug. 13, is the last day to enter your best images in the 22nd National Press Club members photo exhibit. The annual celebration of visual story telling returns this year to the Club's main lobby, with print photos and electronic images displayed for the month of September. Members may enter up to four electronic images and two print photos in the exhibit. The entry forms for electronic images can be found online here. National Press Club Communicators Team resumes in-person Roundtable Dinners, Sept. 22
The National Press Club Communicators’ Team invites Club members – both communicators and journalists – to its next Senior Professional Communicator and Journalist Roundtable Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. in the NPC's Fourth Estate Winners Room. For the past year, the team has conducted these quarterly events virtually without the meal, but now is returning to in-person dinners as the Club is open for such events again.
