Club softball team readies for 2020 season, seeks players
The National Press Club softball team (aka “The Big Blue Machine”) is gearing up for the 2020 season and is looking to add new players. The team competes in the Metropolitan Media Softball League (MMSL) against teams from ABC News, POLITICO, Bloomberg, NBC News, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, CBS News, NPR and other news organizations in the D.C. area. All teams are coed, and games are played on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on fields in Montgomery County from mid-April through late June. Opening Day is set for Saturday, April 18. Award-winning broadcast journalist William Greenwood, 77
William "Bill" Greenwood, an award-winning broadcaster and executive with Mutual Broadcasting, UPI Audio and ABC News, died Jan. 19. He was 77 and had been a member of the National Press Club since 2006. Greenwood, who lived in Washington, won a 2005 Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding news coverage from the Radio Television Digital News Association, and a 2002 Peabody/duPont award from the Columbia School of Journalism for live coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
