Club softball team advances to second weekend of playoffs
The National Press Club softball team is on an unprecedented run through the Metropolitan Media Softball League Playoffs, moving on to the second day for the first time in team history after beating 6-seeded USA Today, 7-5, and then upending the 2-seed Washington Post, 5-3, on June 29. The Club never trailed in either game, and now advances to play top-seed Comcast Sports Net at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 13. Johnstone releases new novel featuring protagonist journalist, Club member
National Press Club member Bill Johnstone has launched his third novel, Waiting for the Storm to Pass, about the adventures of investigative journalist Mike McCabe. The plot is set in Washington, and the hero, like the author, is a member of the Club, where some of the scenes in the book are set. Two teenagers lured to the bright city lights of New York and a corpse washed up on the D.C. waterfront are two incidents that weave a tale of crime, greed and violence and trigger an investigation by the intrepid reporter Mike McCabe, U.S. editor for the London Daily Herald. NPC Board adopts online voting system
National Press Club members can vote online,by mail or in person in upcoming Club officers and board elections,the Board of Governors decided at its meeting Monday. The Board approved a resolution by Secretary Joel Whitaker to authorize online voting for any member who wishes to participate. The resolution direct's the Club's staff to acquire the necessary equipment and computer software to create an online voting system.
