Club members tour Battle of the Wilderness site
Civil War historian Don Pfanz addressed 48 Club members and guests participating in the 10th annual Civil War battlefield trip on June 7 to the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Park. It was the fourth in the Club’s series of Civil War sesquicentennial visits to nearby Civil War battlefields. Pfanz, a retired National Park Service ranger, expertly guided the group through the May 5-6, 1864, Battle of the Wilderness, and the subsequent May 8-21 Spotsylvania engagement. Mezzanine, McClendon Room and Games Room available to members without rental fees
Did you know that members can reserve specific spaces without paying room rental? The McClendon Room, the Games Room and the Mezzanine of the Reliable Source are available to members as venues for meetings, cocktail parties and other special occasions. The spaces are located on the 14th floor of the National Press Club. Reservations are free for Club members, but members are required to purchase food and drinks in exchange for use of the rooms. A memorial service for Sean Patrick Carr will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in the Murrow Room. Sean, 43, of Rockville, Md., was a native of New Jersey and a graduate of Rutgers University. He was the senior reporter for SNL Financial covering insurance policy and financial issues. Drop by the Truman Lounge Thursday, June 12, for an evening of trivia, food, drinks and prizes. Sponsored by the Events Committee, Pub Quiz is a great opportunity to gather with friends over food and drinks and to meet new friends and members. Are you a new member of the National Press Club? Want to learn more about what the Club has to offer you? You can find out at one of two New Member Orientation sessions Wednesday, June 18. To fit members' schedules, the Club's Membership Department is offering sessions at both breakfast and lunch. The breakfast orientation will begin at 8:30 a.m., the lunch session at noon.
