Writings of Civil War era African American women at March 28 event
Writings of Civil War era African American women, as well as poetry of a three-time National Book Award finalist will share the noon stage Friday March 28 in the McLendon Room of the National Press Club. March 18, 1908: A second meeting to organize a National Press Club is held in the F Street Parlor at the New Willard Hotel. A constitution and by-laws are adopted after heated discussion, in particular, of a rule forbidding the granting of any credit by the Club to members, i.e., that food, drink and anything else furnished must be paid for in cash. American Legion Post 20 hosts president of TAPS
Bonnie Carroll, president and founder to Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), described her organization's groundbreaking work at the Thursday, March 13, meeting of the National Press Club's American Legion Post 20. Carroll, who established TAPS in 1994 after the death of her husband Tom in a military plane crash, said that only those who have suffered the loss of loved ones killed serving the nation can provide the kind of on-going support families often need.
