The weather may be cold, dreary and snowy outside, but in the National Press Club's cozy, comfortable Reliable Source restaurant, there’ll be hot times during the month of February. Stephenie Overman found her calling as a teen-ager when she had a lousy manager at the Dairy Queen where she worked. Among the 36 new members who have joined the National Press Club in January are three of the top people at The Washington Post. NPC Membership Committee to meet Feb. 3, seeks applicants
The National Press Club’s Membership Committee, an invitation-only panel charged with reviewing applications for Club membership, will meet on Monday, Feb. 3, and is seeking new applicants to join the committee. The panel works in close concert with NPC Membership Secretary Marc Wojno, who will again lead the Club in its recruitment and member retention efforts. The committee’s work has made a difference; for the first time in several years, the Club's membership rose in 2013. The committee hopes to help increase membership again this year. Two Broadcasters to Lead Board of Governors
The Club's Board of Governors has unanimously elected Ken Mellgren as chair and Jeff Ballou as vice chair for 2014. Mellgren has served on the board for two years and was vice chair last year. He was chairman of the Club’s Broadcast Committee for four years and has been a key player in the Club’s strategic planning, its Broadcast Task Force and the History and Heritage Committee. Mellgren retired from the Associated Press Broadcast Division after 16 years in Washington. He previously worked for WRC-AM in Washington, Cox Broadcasting and WJIB i Boston.
