Members to be asked to approve dues increase, strategic plan at Oct. 4 meeting
National Press Club members are expected to be asked to approve two important items at a General Membership Meeting at noon on Friday, Oct. 4, in the Conference Rooms. After Press Club officers report on the state of the Club, members will be asked to approve a $1 per month increase in dues for most membership categories except spouse/partner, widow, inactive, student and interns, and also to approve the Club's proposed strategic plan, which will set the course for the Club's operations from 2014 to 2018. NPC Fourth Estate Winner, Golden Owl Booker receives Phoenix Award
This Week in National Press Club History: Sept. 18, 2010: NPC Golden Owl and 1982 Fourth Estate Award winner Simeon Booker receives the Phoenix Award from the Congressional Black Caucus in recognition of his more than 55 years as Washington bureau chief of Ebony and Jet Magazines. In April 2013, in a sold-out Book Rap for the Club’s Journalism Institute, Booker talks of his experiences covering the Emmett Till murder trial in Mississippi, the Freedom Rides and the administrations of 10 American presidents. American Legion Post plans luncheon featuring speech on diplomacy on Sept. 18 at noon
The NPC American Legion Post 20 plans to host John Lenczowski, founder and president of the Institute of World Politics, as a luncheon speaker at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Reliable Source's McClendon Room. Lenczowski, a former director of European and Soviet Affairs at the National Security Council, plans to discuss the current state of U.S. diplomacy with particular attention to events in the Middle East. Speaker portions of American Legion Post 20 meetings are open to all National Press Club members.

American Women Writers National Museum plans romance novel workshop
The American Women Writers National Museum is planning a workshop on how to profit from writing and marketing America's largest-selling literary genre: romantic fiction. The National Press Club's Centennial Spelling Bee is just a few days away on Sept. 18. As senators, members of congress and Beltway journalists brush up on their silent p's and b's, the Press Club is offering an additional $5 discount to Club members -- making them $15 for two hours of once-in-a-century entertainment. Head table seat available for sold-out Gov. Fallin luncheon, Sept. 17
One seat is available for a National Press Club member who would like to sit at the head table for the sold-out luncheon featuring Oklahoma Governor and National Governors Association Chair Mary Fallin on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Members who are interested should email [email protected] to request the seat. If you are selected for the seat, you will be asked to submit at least two questions for the speaker by Sept. 13. Head-table guests must arrive at the Press Club by noon on the day of the luncheon. The luncheon ends at 2 p.m.
