Seymour Hersh, the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter who first wrote about the 1968 My Lai massacre in Vietnam, and the 2004 physical and sexual abuse of prisoners at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, plans to discuss the current state of American journalism at the Silver Owls Fall Hoot on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. in the National Press Club Ballroom. Club will "celebrate" 1919 start of Prohibition
A six-piece Ragtime/Dixieland band will make the Reliable Source jump on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as the National Press Club commemorates the night a century ago that Prohibition began in Washington. With the Jefferson Street Strutters providing the music, the Club will “Party Like it’s 1919” from 6:30 to 9:30. NPC President Kodjak takes on new role as Associated Press investigations editor
National Press Club President Alison Fitzgerald Kodjak, an award-winning reporter and editor, has returned to The Associated Press as its Washington investigations editor. She had worked as a reporter and editor at AP from 1997 to 2000. Indie authors to learn details of Club's book raps, Oct. 10
The next gathering of the informal National Press Club independent author group is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the McClendon Room. The guest speaker this month is Joe Motheral, who chairs the Club's Book and Author team. This recently reconstituted group has taken on the responsibility for organizing some of the Club's treasured book raps. National Press Club members who stop by the Reliable Source for breakfast are offered freshly baked pastries and bite-sized muffins in addition to fruit, bagels and other goodies on the continental breakfast buffet. The National Press Club's draft five-year strategic plan is now available online for member review. Nine months in the making, the National Press Club’s draft five-year strategic plan is now available for review by Club members. The draft will be discussed and voted upon at the Oct. 11 general membership meeting at noon. After the largest survey of Club members in its history, as well as roundtable discussions among present and past leaders, the Strategic Plan Task Force, led by Vice President Mike Freedman, made a series of recommendations. The National Press Club plans to celebrate Oktoberfest in the Reliable Source with a buffet starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.
