NPC member Ambrose touts OECD's 'freecycle' of its collection of books
National Press Club member Natalie Ambrose invites Press Club members to browse the free collection of materials available at the free collection of the Organization for Economic Cooperation, or OECD. OECD publishes a lot of books and data which could be of interest to Club members doing research or wanting information on a variety of topics. Due to its upcoming move, the OECD Washington Center is transitioning to an increasingly digital library so the organization is offering its collection for "freecycle" during the month of August on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.…

Member Anthony Gallo plans performance of drama, opera at Kennedy Center, Aug. 30
The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts, as part of the 2014 Page-to-Stage Festival, is planning to present with a Seventh Street Playhouse and Gallo Music Company a double bill featuring two works by National Press Club member Anthony E. Gallo on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. on the Millennial Stage North. There is no charge for the event. Womack Publishing Chairman Zan Womack dies at 71
Charles A. “Zan” Womack Jr. of Danville, Virginia, died Aug. 4, following a brief illness. He was a member of the National Press Club for 36 years and served on the board of directors of the Virginia Press Association. Zan Womack, 71, owned the Star-Tribune in Chatham, Virginia, the Caswell Messenger in Yanceyville, North Carolina, and 13 other weekly newspapers in Virginia and North Carolina. NPC members get more time to submit photos for exhibit, deadline extended to Aug. 22
The deadline for National Press Club members to submit their photos to be displayed in the Press Club’s lobby during September has been extended until close of business Friday, Aug. 22. Entries for the 15th Annual NPC Members’ Photo Exhibition must be dropped off in the Club's Membership Office. Each member may submit up to four photos and each photo may not exceed 11x14” (print and mat). All photos must be securely mounted and matted. No photos will be accepted after Friday, Aug. 22. The exhibit, sponsored by the Club's Photography Committee, is open to all Club members and is not juried.…

Member invites National Press Club members to a study trip to Turkey in mid-November
National Press Club Member Mehmet Saracoglu invites National Press Club members, both journalists and communicators, to Rumi Forum`s upcoming study trip to Turkey, Nov. 14-23. To participate in the trip, NPC members will need to purchase their own airfare to and from Turkey and provide $500 for domestic flights within Turkey. The Rumi Forum will cover all other expenses including accommodations, ground transportation and meals. However, if any NPC members wish to reimburse Rumi Forum for these costs, they may do so. Memorial Mass for Marilou Donahue to be held Sept. 9 at Annunciation Church
A memorial Mass for National Press Club member Marilou Donahue will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at The Church of the Annunciation in Washington, D.C. The church is located at 3810 Massachusetts Ave., NW. All Press Club members and friends of Donahue are welcome. Her family suggests any donations in her memory be made to IONA or The Church of the Annunciation. Donahue, a Club member since 1998 and an active member of the Speakers Committee, died on Aug. 8.
