NPC Freelance Committee Discusses Whether to Write a Book
Should you write a book? That's the question that the Club's Freelance Committee considered at their meeting May 21. Anna Lafferty, a Santa Barbara, Calif., book designer and professor of publication design in Santa Barbara, CA, offered lots of questions that freelancers should consider before writing. They include who the author is writing for, where it will be sold, why should it be a book, and why would someone read it. Books & Brunch is typically held on the third Saturday of the month in the Fourth Estate Restaurant at noon. Visit the Antietam Battlefield during the 150th anniversary of the Civil War
Some seats still remain for the Club’s annual Civil War battlefield trip, taking place this year to Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland on Saturday, June 2. A capital idea: Spend July 4 at the Club
The National Press Club will open its doors to members and their guests on Wednesday, July 4, offering a unique spot to spend Independence Day. While the Club officially will be closed, members and guests who pre-register can enjoy drinks and snacks in the First Amendment lounge from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The PBS broadcast of a Capital Fourth will be shown on a big screen TV. All members of the National Press Club receive complimentary evening and weekend parking at the PMI garage on G Street NW when they dine at the NPC's Reliable Source or Fourth Estate restaurants. Members who are using any of the other Club facilities at night or on Saturday can purchase a discounted parking sticker for $5 at the front desk. Award-winning sports photographer to address Photography Committee
Chris Bernacchi, an award-winning sports photographer, will speak at a luncheon meeting of the Club's Photography Committee at noon, Wednesday, May 30, in the McClendon Room. Bernacchi will discuss photos based on his wide-ranging sports work, as well as selected images from his architecture, environmental portrait, and documentary photo essay portfolios.
