Bloomberg's Hughes to chair BOG; Kiplinger's Wojno is vice chair
The 2012 Board of Governors elected John Hughes of Bloomberg News to be its chairman and Marc Wojno of Kiplinger to be vice chairman. In other action, the board, which met briefly following the general membership meeting Friday, approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would require candidates for communicator based upon being a news source must be a regular news source, not a one-time source.

Memorial service for Susan Wagner 4 p.m. Wednesday in the First Amendment Room
NPC Member Susan Wagner died on New Year's Day following a four-week battle with pancreatic cancer. Ms. Wagner's family will hold a memorial tribute with wine, snacks and music at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 25 a First Amendment Room, National Press Building 13th Floor. Club achieves second-best profit in history; falls short of projections
Following is the text of the report given by Treasurer Myron Belkind at the National Press Club general membership meeting on Jan. 20: I stand before you to report on the Club¹s finances, and as you will appreciate often happens in our profession, there is good news and some not-so-good news but still very hopeful news for the future of the National Press Club. The good news is that the Club finished 2011 with $1.236 million in profits,the second best in the Club¹s history, exceeded only by the $1.45 million in2010. Werner assumes Club presidency, focuses on member retention
The National Press Club's new president Theresa Werner accepted recethe President's gavel from outgoing President Mark Hamrick on Jan. 20 at the Club's annual general membership meeting. Your spouse or domestic partner can be a member of the National Press Club for $10 a month. The Spouse/Partner membership includes nearly all the same privileges offered to all the other categories of membership including use of both restaurants, the fitness center, the library and the business center. In addition, Spouse/Partner members can serve on or chair any of the Club’s committees. They are not eligible to vote in Club elections or run for elected office. Werner takes gavel as Club president, noon Jan. 20
Outgoing National Press Club President Mark Hamrick will pass the gavel to his successor, Theresa Werner, at today's Annual Membership Meeting. The event gets under way at noon in the Holeman Lounge. The business portion will begin at about 12:15 p.m. Club officers will also report to the membership on the state of the Club. There is no business requiring a vote of the membership. Membership bills to arrive soon -- without dues increase
When you open your envelope from the National Press Club in the next few days and find the billing for your 2012 membership renewal, please be assured there is NO error in the 2012 dues. They are the same as the dues levied in 2011, following the Board of Governors’ decision to keep the rates at the same level in 2012 as they were last year.
